Golf in the woods and vineyards, a stone’s throw from Lake Iseo

Our history

It was 1927 when Baron Edoardo Pizzini Piomarta had the first “Golf Club di Franciacorta” built in the greenery of Borgonato. In less than twenty years of life, the Golf Club of Franciacorta grew and was able to gain a leading place in the golf scene in Lombardy and beyond.

Golf returned to the forefront in Franciacorta in 1984 at the initiative of Vittorio Moretti, a well-known businessman in the building industry at the time, a producer of prestigious wines and – above all – very much linked to his homeland, who founded the current Club.

Moretti and eighteen other founding members created the ASD Franciacorta Golf Club, choosing as the location for the ambitious project the former clay quarry of Corte Franca, surrounded by green vineyards of Franciacorta.

The timing of the work can be defined without fear “record”: in fact, all the necessary land was acquired in just four months and in the spring of 1985, thanks to the fundamental support of the City of Corte Franca, all the necessary permits had already been granted. Only eight months after the presentation of the project, earth-moving works began and after less than a year from that date the first eighteen holes were already a reality.

The richness of water in this enclave of Franciacorta has been exploited by the architects Pete Dye and Marco Croze – the designers of the new Franciacorta Golf Club – who have been able to create a technically demanding course full of charm and, at the same time, “sweet” as the territory that hosts it and perfectly integrated into the surrounding natural context.

The first President of the Franciacorta Golf Club Association was Giovanni Cavalleri, with Paolo Tadini as head of the Secretariat. The first Club House, on the other hand, was housed in an old renovated farmhouse, the “Castagnola”.

In July 1986, the new camp was officially inaugurated. In the meantime, work continued on completing the structure, with the construction of the 9 executive holes and the new Club House designed by architect Paolo Dabbeni, inaugurated in the summer of 1987, together with the tennis courts and swimming pools.

The Franciacorta Golf Club was chosen by the Italian Golf Federation already in 1989 for the organization of the National Junior Championship, which was then held here again in 1992, while in 1997 was the seat of the Italian Championship Absolute Foursome. In 1990 the Club organized its first Social Championship.

Over the years the ASD Franciacorta Golf Club has hosted many national championships, such as the Mid Amateur Championship (1998), Seniores (1999), Team Championship Series A2 (2002), Mid Amateur (2005), Foursome (2006), PGA Seniores (2006), Senior PGA Italian Championship (2008 and 2009).

The Club has also hosted several international events: the Alpen Cup (2000 and 2006), the Internazionale Ladies d’Italia (2007), and the European Masters Senior Championship and Cup (2010).

The last 9 holes of the Rosè Course were added in 2009, as part of the project “The wine golf course” in collaboration with the Consortium for the Protection of Franciacorta: the most famous wineries in the area have chosen to link their names to a hole, and the names of the courses (Brut, Satèn, and Rosè) remember the three excellences of local sparkle wine.
